More than a dozen Wake County schools Wednesday received national recognition as some of the best magnet schools in the country.

According to the Wake County Public School System, Magnet Schools of America (MSA) gave 13 schools in the district the highest level of certification of “Nationally Certified Demonstration Schools,” which MSA says are schools that not only meet but exceed the criteria of MSA’s five pillars.

    • Fox Road Magnet Elementary
      • Green Magnet Elementary
        • Kingswood Magnet Elementary
          • North Wake College and Career Academy
            • Oberlin Magnet Middle
              • Reedy Creek Magnet Middle
                • Underwood Magnet Elementary
                  • Vernon Malone College and Career Academy
                    • Wake Early College of Health and Science
                      • Washington Magnet Elementary
                        • West Millbrook Magnet Middle
                          • Zebulon Elementary

                            According to MSA, nationally certified magnet schools are schools that have gone under a “rigorous” one-year process of self-evaluation and improvement to MSA’s five pillars of “diversity, innovative and professional development, academic excellence, high-quality instructional systems and family and community partnerships.”

                            In total, 17 schools in the district received the National Certification from MSA.

                            Fuller Magnet Elementary, Lincoln Heights Magnet Elementary, Martin Magnet Middle and Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy also met MSA’s criteria for National Certified Schools.
