A Whiteville High School student tells WECT they received a racist text message this week along with several other students. The messages are very similar to other messages that have been reported nationwide.
Senior Serenity Harvey says her message read:

“Good morning, You have been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation. Please be ready at 11:00 am sharp with your belongings. Our executive slaves will come get you in a white van, be prepared to be searched down once you’ve entered the plantation. You are in plantation group A. Have a great rest of your day.”
Harvey said she was confused. She was in school at the time, so she showed it to her weight training coach and assistant principal who then tried to track down the phone number. They said it was a TextNow anonymous number, so they couldn’t figure out who did it.
