A man who was shot Tuesday by a Person County sheriff's deputy in Timberlake has died, the sheriff's office confirmed Wednesday.
The shooting happened on Antioch Church Road when deputies tried to serve an eviction notice on 56-year-old Kent Earl Pittman, authorities said.

Pittman was rushed for medical treatment to Duke University Hospital, where he died, Sheriff Dewey Jones said.
When the deputy arrived at the house, he found Pittman on the back porch with a gun to his head, Jones said.
"We tried multiple means of trying to get the guy to surrender the weapon," the sheriff said. 'We even had the preacher come by and try to talk him down."
After more than an hour of negotiations, Pittman pointed the gun at a deputy, and Lt. Ryan Weaver, Sgt. Michael Rogers and Sgt. Dustin Harris fired their weapons at him, Jones said.
Neighbor Brandon Chambers lives next door.
"They were all set up and the shots started firing. About seven or eight fired," he said. "It's shocking, hard to believe. Kind of sad situation once you think about it and realize what happened there today."
The sheriff said the shooting is hard emotionally for the officers.
"Something you never want to do as an officer," he said. "You never want to have to use your weapon."
The officers involved are on administrative duty, and the State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
