One person has died after being shot by a Gaston County Police officer on Saturday, the police department confirmed.

Officers responded to a 911 call on Beau Drive in Stanley around 12:20 p.m. While officers were responding, there was an "encounter" between police and someone at the scene, according to the police department.

During this time, an officer fired their weapon and hit the person. First responders treated the person, but they died at the scene.

This is the second police shooting in the greater Charlotte area on Saturday.

The police department hasn't provided further information about the incident, and it's not clear if the person was armed.
