The city of Raleigh will being collecting leaves piled at the curb on Nov. 12, 2024. The city sends specialized vacuum trucks through residential neighborhoods in 12 zones throughout the winter months to collect the leaves.
The first leaf collection occurs Nov. 12 in Zone 5 – an area between Durant Road in the north and Interstate 540 in the south, between U.S. Highway 1 (Capitol Boulevard) and Falls of Neuse Road.

The city offers a search so that residents can enter their address to see their zone, when to pile leaves at the curb and when to expect leaf collection.
Leaf piles should be placed on or at the curb. Do not block sidewalks or storm drains. Do not mix in other trash, sticks or pet waste with leaf piles. Those items can clog the city vacuums.
Leaves are considered "solid waste" that should be disposed or recycled, and Raleigh's leaf pickup is free to owners of single-family homes. The city does not pick up leaves for commercial properties such as businesses, schools, churches or apartment complexes.
The city will visit each zone twice over the course of the winter. The first round of leaf pickup schedule is posted on the city website.
Residents are asked not to pile leaves at the curb until two weeks before their scheduled pickup.
