Durham County deputies arrested a second person accused of having sex with an inmate at the Durham County Detention Center.
The sheriff's office charged Lerin Burnette with sexual activity by a person having custody of a victim in a governmental institution, which is a Class E felony.

According to the sheriff's office, Burnette was employed by a contract vendor. She no longer works at the detention facility.
"I will not stand for any activity which contradicts our mission in the care and custody of the people who are confined to the detention facility," said Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead. "Whether it is a sheriff’s office employee or a contractor we must hold everyone who interacts with our residents to a high standard."
On Monday, detention officer Jade Shanicia Lanique Robertson was arrested for violating a North Carolina law that prohibits sexual activity by a person having custody of a victim in a governmental institution. Robertson worked as a detention officer in the Durham County Detention Facility. Birkhead immediately terminated Robertson.
Public documents accuse both Robertson and Burnette of having sex with the inmate, which the documents said happened on the same day.
A magistrate saw Burnette, who was released on $25,000 unsecured bond.
