Sola Coffee has become a beloved fixture in Raleigh, North Carolina, since its opening back in 2012. Colin Leonard, a key member of the Sola Coffee family, spoke to WRAL News about the shop's journey and its deep roots within the community.
"Sola has been around for a long time now, 11 years. It opened in 2012," Colin said. "I actually married into the family, so my father and mother-in-law John and Jeanne Luther started it back in 2012. My wife's been working here since she was 13. It opened up, and at the time, the shopping center was totally dead. Gonza (Tacos y Tequila) had only been open for three months, and it kinda just took off. It's been like a really great community spot for a ton of people."

Honoring a legacy
The passing of Jeanne Luther, who was diagnosed with ALS, has deeply influenced Sola Coffee's mission. Leonard shares, "Her mark is everywhere here. So one of the really cool things I think we do here is that we do a run every year to raise money for ALS." This annual event, once a small neighborhood fun run, has now grown to attract thousands of participants and raises significant funds for ALS research. It serves as a testament to how the community comes together to support causes close to their hearts.
Sola Coffee has not only become a popular spot for coffee lovers in Raleigh but has also blossomed into an enduring symbol of community support. Through their dedication to creating a welcoming environment and their commitment to helping those in need, Sola Coffee encapsulates the essence of community-driven businesses. As Leonard puts it, "We're very fortunate for what the community believes about this place."
