A water main break on Wednesday will close the road near a popular shopping center for several days in Raleigh.

Raleigh officials said a water main ruptured on the 2400 block of Crabtree Boulevard near Capital Boulevard and Raleigh Boulevard.

The city said the Crabtree Boulevard is closed between Capital Boulevard and Raleigh Boulevard until Sunday, Nov. 3, adding things could change due to weather and other factors.

Raleigh Water officials said the infrastructure, built back in the 1960s, is old – which makes the break even more difficult to repair.

"The problem is our valves aren't closing all the way," said Ed Buchan, environmental coordinator for the City of Raleigh. "We got it closed down pretty well, but there's still some leaking out."

According to the city, the shopping center near the repair area will be accessible from Crabtree Boulevard.

The city provided the following detours:

  • Traffic traveling north on Capital Boulevard, will take a right onto Yonkers Road, a right onto Raleigh Boulevard, then back onto Crabtree Boulevard.
    • Traffic traveling north on Raleigh Boulevard, will take a left onto Yonkers Road, a left on Capital Boulevard, then back onto Crabtree Boulevard.
