A wrong-way driver has been charged with DWI after crashing into a Wake County deputy's car Monday morning.
Around 3:26 a.m., a Wake County deputy was providing security in a work zone on I-540 in a marked patrol car when a Honda CRV driving in the wrong direction hit the deputy’s car head-on.

Matthew Lamar Clary, 25, of Cary, has been charged with DWI, driving the wrong direction on a controlled access highway and possession of an open container of alcohol.
A State Highway Patrol trooper said both the suspect and the deputy were injured in the crash.
The sheriff's office said the deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver who hit the deputy's car refused medical attention, the state trooper said.
