And right now at 530 we are learning more about

a woman accused of helping her brother a convicted murderer

escape custody leading law enforcement on a three day manhunt

Monique Brady made her first appearance in court this afternoon

charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive and harboring an

escapee

What we know we you know now that she's a

former teacher and cheerleading coach in Orange County

Thank you for joining us

I'm Dan Haggerty and I'm Lena Tole Wrl Sean Gallagher

is joining us live now outside the Orange County courthouse

where she faced a judge today Sean this may not

be the last person facing charges in connection to this

escape

Yeah that's right

Lena

I spoke with the sheriff here before the hearing and

he told me there may be more arrests to come

related to this incident which really leaves a lot of

open ended questions about who's involved and how this all

went down

It took three days for law enforcement to capture Ramon

Austin

And today we saw one of the people accused of

helping him his sister Monique Brady was silent going into

court today and while sitting through the reading of the

charges against her aiding and abetting a felon and harboring

a fugitive which carries a maximum of just over five

years if she's found guilty

Do you have anything that you'd like to say Leaving

the courtroom Brady barely spoke uttering something as the elevator

doors closed

When leaving the elevator the woman with Brady said this

we know the truth

And for Brady what has the media gotten wrong about

your brother That woman covering her mouth not letting her

speak

Not to go into that

There was more silence from law enforcement on the matter

as well

Sheriff Charles Blackwood not providing any information for our questions

about how Brady was arrested her role in helping Alston

escape or her relationship to Jacobia Crisp

The other woman charged in this case folks I know

you want details and I understand that we want details

too to say that we had enough to take these

people into custody is absolute

Um What comes next We'll all have to wait for

it and Sheriff Blackwood has had a lot of time

to reflect on this situation in the last week or

so since this all happened

He says there's a lot to learn including what they

should do with protocols around transportation especially when it's dealing

with inmates health

He says that there needs to be better options rather

than taking somebody clear across the state because when something

like this happens it puts everybody's safety in jeopardy

That's the prisoner the officers involved and of course the

community as well
