Andy’s Healing Journey at WakeMed Children’s
One Sunday morning Andy was doubled over in pain. His mom wasn’t sure what was wrong but rushed her son to the WakeMed Children’s Emergency Department. It was discovered that Andy had appendicitis and would need surgery. In just a few short days, Andy returned home to get back to being a kid.

Dr. Mark Henin
In the U.S., approximately 304,000 children and adolescents under 20 are living with Type 1 diabetes, making awareness and early diagnosis more important than ever. WakeMed Children’s – Pediatric Endocrinology’s Dr. Mark Henin breaks down the basics of T1D.
Dr. Mark Henin is a Pediatric Endocrinologist with clinical interests in diabetes, growth, delayed/early puberty and the thyroid. He is Co-Director of the WakeMed Pediatric Thyroid Center, specializing in care of thyroid nodules/malignancies, hyperparathyroidism and hypo/hyperthyroidism.
