Lawyers for the man charged with murdering a Raleigh teacher are asking that he undergo mental competency evaluations before the case proceeds.
Ryan Camacho is charged with first degree murder and first degree burglary in the death of Ravenscroft school teacher Zoe Welsh. Police say it happened at Welsh's home in January.

Camcho's lawyers have filed a motion requesting that he be sent to Central Regional Hospital in Butner to determine his capacity to stand trial.
Before she died, Welsh told 9-1-1 dispatchers that a man broke into her home and hit her with a brick. Officers later found Camacho at a bus stop a mile away with blood on him.
Police say he confessed to the killing.
Court records obtained by WRAL reveal that Camacho has a documented history of schizophrenia and paranoia. Camacho has a lengthy criminal history going back more than a decade in both Wake and Durham counties. Court records show Camacho has been arrested more than 20 times.
