Durham police investigate after SUV crashes into school bus

No serious injuries were reported, but the crash comes as multiple districts across central North Carolina have seen school bus crashes in the last two weeks.

Durham police are investigating after a car crashed into a school bus on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to Riddle Road near NC-55 just after 3 p.m. Police told WRAL News the school bus was turning onto Riddle Road from NC-55 when an SUV crashed into it.

No students were on the bus during the accident, and both drivers are expected to be OK.

Police have not yet said what caused the crash or if any charges were filed. The names of the two drivers have also not been released.

This comes just one day after a pick-up truck ran into the back of a Johnston County school bus and drove off before police arrived. Cumberland County Schools also reported a car crashing into a school bus just one day earlier. No one was injured in either crash.

A Wake County school bus was also involved in a crash earlier this week. It marked at least the fifth school bus crash in just two weeks in central North Carolina.

Data from the North Carolina Department of Transportation found that school bus crashes in North Carolina have increased slightly, but remain relatively steady.
