A man will spend the rest of his life in prison after killing his girlfriend and shooting her son inside a Johnston County home in months earlier.
Jerry Williams pleaded guilty Tuesday in Johnston County Superior Court to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in a March 14 shooting that killed his girlfriend, Princess Russell, and hurt her son, Zykeith Shaw.

Russell died at the scene, while Shaw, who was 18 at the time, escaped after being shot by jumping from a second-story window of the home.
A 10-year-old girl was also found inside the home unharmed.
The shooting happened on Valley Field Drive.
Johnston County District Attorney Jason Waller said the following on Tuesday after Williams entered his plea to the court:
"This plea ensures that Jerry Ross Williams will spend the rest of his life in prison. While no sentence can ever restore the life that was taken or erase the trauma inflicted on this family, we hope today's resolution provides them with a measure of justice and allows them to begin moving forward. Our thoughts remain with the family of the victim as they continue to grieve this unimaginable loss."
