After being hospitalized for nearly a month, Kai Ritchie is home recovering Wednesday from a collision on Cinco De Mayo.
Ritchie was on the way home from work on May 5 when police say he was hit by Jose Lopez Sanchez, who officers said was driving the wrong way on Interstate 40 while impaired.

Ritchie sustained serious injuries underwent numerous surgeries before being released on Wednesday.
It will be months before Ritchie is able to return to work.
“Physical therapy appointments at Cary WakeMed hopefully," said Ritchie when he was asked how he plans on getting back on his feet. "Working as hard as I can, even outside of that. Doing workouts at home like I used to and just being active. Not just laying around in a bed all day, because that’s not going to fix it.”
Since being admitted to the hospital Ritchie has not been able to work, and now he's facing large medical bills.
“There’s no money from the other side to help with these bills. And after seeing an itemized bill from the hospital, I was like, 'Oh my goodness'," said Stormy Schumann-Ritchie, Kai's mom.
The family started a GoFundMe to help with Kai's long list of medical expenses.
Ritchie tells WRAL he holds no grudge for Sanchez and hopes he and others will learn from the incident and not drink and drive.
