Durham police are investigating the second shooting to happen in the same neighborhood in less than 36 hours.
Tuesday shortly after midnight, officers responded to the area of Lednum Street and Leon Street. Several minutes later, officers were notified that a man had been shot and taken to a local hospital by car; his injuries are life-threatening.

Officers then found a 17-year-old victim in the 2300 block of Lednum Street. This man had also been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness said they were sleeping when they heard gunshots.
"Then I see the guys run.. shooting.. everything," the witness said. "It was two guys right here in front of my house. Then I see the other guy just coming down from the apartment right there.
"I see them carry one guy and take him in one car."
The witness said the area needs a stronger police presence.
"There was police around here before but they don’t come here no more," the witness told WRAL News. "I think they need to be around here so they can see the community and take care of this. It’s getting wild. This is the second one in two days.”
On Sunday evening, officers responded to another shooting in the 2300 block of Lednum Street, where they found a man who had been shot. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Sunday that this appeared to be an isolated incident; WRAL News is working to learn if the shootings are connected.
Both investigations are ongoing.
On Tuesday morning, a man died from a shooting on Holloway Street around 9:40 a.m.
