Arrests have been made in three high speed chases that happened on Wednesday in Wake and Durham counties.

Multi-county chase ends in crash along US-70, one man still on the run

Wake County sheriff’s deputies were first called around 6 a.m. after a car was seen driving without a license plate displayed. Deputies said when authorities tried to pull the driver over, they did not stop, and the chase ensued on US-70.

Deputies said the chase ended after the car crashed in a ditch near Sherron Road in Durham.

Two men, the driver and one passenger, ran from the car. Deputies stated that there was a second passenger, but they said they remained.

Deputies are still searching for one of the men who ran from the scene. The other is in custody. Their names have not been released.

Man arrested after Knightdale chase

WRAL’s Sky 5 also flew over a second chase that ended in Knightdale just after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sky 5 video captured a man in handcuffs and receiving medical attention from deputies. Video also captured footage of a sedan that was significantly damaged and parked nearby.

It is unclear if this arrest was connected to the crash on US-70.

One arrested after Durham chase, Sky 5 video shows two people running from vehicle

A person was also arrested in Durham after leading deputies on a chase by vehicle and on foot on Wednesday.

Sky 5 flew overhead of the end of the chase in Durham and saw at least one man running through a parking lot and into the woods on Sudbury Road near Danube Lane.

Deputies have not released the names of the people involved in any of the chases.

Other NC law enforcement chases in 2026

January has seen five other law enforcement chases so far. Just this week, state troopers shot a woman on Tuesday on a highway in Greensboro after troopers said she showed a gun after a chase. A 16-year-old was also arrested on Monday after leading deputies on a multi-county chase. 

Just one week ago, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, two men were arrested by Raleigh police after shots were accidentally fired following a chase on New Bern Avenue.

The day before, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, two teens were also arrested after leading law enforcement on a chase in a stolen pickup truck along I-95 in Johnston County. 

Two people were also arrested on Friday, Jan. 2, after deputies said they saw someone driving recklessly on Poole Road.
